Sea Mauville, the remnants of a decrepit research facility. The budding Oceanographer in Rowan was interested in this place and the applications that this technology could provide, though he wouldn’t know how to begin to salvage any of them. “Creepy as hell.” Rowan muttered underneath his breath as he stepped through the sunken ruins, here for an alternative mission to that of a technology seeker.

Pokemon had been sighted around this area recently, making their home among the dilapidated wreckage. It was Rowan’s goal to seek out as many oceanic Pokemon as he could find for the purposes of his fledgling research, as well as his innate interest in the dwellers of the ocean. Should he find anything within these ruins, it would only prove a boon to his current goals.

Rowan activated his flashlight with the click of a button, illuminating the darkened hallway before him. “This place is literally a nightmare.” Sounds echoed through the chambers of Sea Mauville, metal shifting to create a cacophony of groans that one could easily misinterpret as the tortured howls of spirits. “Alright, gotta keep moving.” Rowan leaned over a nearby railing, shining his light downwards into the dark depths below. Water had already claimed most of this facility, creating a murky pool that was impossible to see too far down.

He watched as a Frillish hovered silently through the top layers of the water, illuminated rather brilliantly by the light he was casting. Legend has it that the residents of a sunken ancient city changed into these Pokémon, though Rowan didn’t particularly believe in these rumors. The idea of someone becoming a Pokemon was nothing more than a fantasy, or so Rowan assumed. Although it was tempting to believe in the idea, there was no evidence of which he was aware, but perhaps one day he could look into that research himself.

Was he being followed? Rowan couldn’t shake off the sensation that there was someone or something behind him, and yet every time he looked there was nothing. “It’s only your imagination, Rowan.” A place like this was a breeding ground for mistaken sights and sounds, not to mention the residual electric and magnetic fields that could still have been emitting from the machinery. “Kekeke…” Rowan spun around with the flashlight once more, knowing that laugh certainly wasn’t a trick that his mind was playing on him.

This time the hallway wasn’t empty. Hovering a few feet away from him was the phantasmal form of Haunter, lingering in the air with a mischievous grin plastered on their face. “Shit!” Rowan took off running down the metal corridor, not exactly wanting to tangle with the ghost Pokemon in their own natural environment. Seeing as Haunter could travel through solid surfaces, losing them took a great deal of effort and unfortunately getting himself lost in the process. “Where the hell am I now?”

As he glanced around, Rowan found himself standing amongst a series of unfamiliar machine consoles, assuming this to be some sort of control center for the facility. “I’m completely lost.” One of the chairs began to spin around slowly, suddenly concerned that the Haunter had managed to find him after all. “Shit!” Instead, the small and unassuming form of a Pyukumuku was perched on the seat, beady eyes staring at him through the darkness.

“Oh, hello there.” In response, the Pyukumuku expelled the large hand from its mouth, offering Rowan an enthusiastic wave. Rowan grabbed onto an empty Pokeball and launched it with deft accuracy towards the Pyukumuku as soon as the mouth disappeared, looking to capture the Pokemon.
